What I Remember From the Past Few Days:

- I may be able to survive 24 hours without coffee, but I don't have a personality when I make the attempt.

- No one appreciates that I wore a skirt today in an effort to keep our school accredited.

- Every Monday, I sit for seven hours.

- You can get hit in the head with a baseball if you sit in the ninth row at a baseball game.

- If you sit in the third row, some crazy guy with a Batman belt might ask you dumb questions, like, "Why does New York have two baseball teams?"

- People still stick things in their ears and light them on fire in order to draw out earwax.

- Just because someone says they'll catch you doesn't mean they want you to jump; you can break wrists doing that.

Sometimes it just hits me: I'm teaching college students. I'm responsible for a portion of their education. Normally that is a wonderful realization, because it reminds me that I worked hard to achieve something, and now I know enough that some big-shot thinks I can turn around and help someone else.

Tonight, as I reviewed in my mind the lesson plan I wrote for tomorrow's classes, something else occurred to me. My lesson includes a discussion about communicating with God and how He communicates with us. In leading this discussion, even if I don't offer any opinions of my own, I am shaping the way people think about the Creator of the universe. That's a little intimidating. I pray -- and ask that anyone reading this would, too -- that God would use my words to draw students closer to His heart.

WE'RE HAVING A BABY!

"We" means Copper and Mike and me, because I'm claiming Little Webb as my occasional child until I get my own. Or a pet. At any rate, I can't wait to see this new little person!

the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses...

What a man. The sheer beauty of that one line makes me want to chuck punctuation forever.

For the past two weeks or so, whenever my campers asked what the next project was, I've asked them if they had a bribe. They never seemed to know what that was, so being the education-minded person I am, I explained the term, and noted that the only items I would consider for a bribe were coffee, chocolate, or money. Since most campers don't carry a latte in their backpack, this was my way of letting them know they would have to wait to find out about the activities, just like everyone else.

Until yesterday, that worked. Yesterday, I had several children bring in chocolate bars and pieces of candy, attempting to get the information out of me. Some even offered me money.

"No, honey, you're going to want this piece of chocolate for snack today," I told one curly-headed cherub.

"I won't! This is extra! I told my mom that I needed to bring a bribe for my teacher, so she helped me pack this!"

Great. So now I am the science instructor who asks kids for bribes.
